InsurTechNZ August 2022 Newsletter

Digital transformation of insurance means insurtech talent is in demand. Our August event, hosted by Fidelity Life, featured an expert panel sharing their top tips on hiring, training and retaining talent, along with their recent recruitment experiences and challenges both locally and overseas.

Three takeaways:

1. Being purpose-led is now more important than ever – people are choosing roles based on company values, team culture and their ability to make a difference.

2. Asynchronous working environments are likely the future – hybrid / flexible models are already expected and are likely to evolve, but a focus on ‘anytime’ work, rather than ‘all the time’ work is needed to prevent burnout.

3. Consider fostering your own talent – hire based on cultural fit and allow for cross-functionality in your teams to grow capabilities and skills. While it’s not always possible, in many cases, your employees will stay challenged, motivated and loyal.

This month Insurance Business magazine asked for InsurTechNZ’s view on careers amid changing international market conditions. Read perspectives from the UK, Germany, USA and others here. Spoiler alert – it continues to be a great time to work in Insurtech.

To help recruit tech talent from overseas, consider using the free marketing resources from seetomorrowfirst.nz. ‘See Tomorrow First’, also known as The New Zealand Tech Story, is a global marketing activity to promote New Zealand’s technology capabilities and points of difference in order to attract talent, investors and buyers.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event, on 8th September, hosted by Delta Insurance. Register at https://insurtechnz.org.nz/event/harnessing-data-to-prevent-losses/
