InsurTechNZ News – July 2024

Kia ora,

In addition to warmly welcoming our newest members, we would also like to acknowledge recent industry recognition. Congratulations to BizCover, Grappler, InsuredHQ, JAVLN and RedBook – all named in Insurance Business Magazine’s 5 Star Tech and Software Providers. Partners Life was also a finalist in The World’s Digital Insurance Awards APAC 2024 for Evince, its advice tool. Read their story here. Tower received Canstar’s Home & Contents Insurer of the Year Award. Members attending a panel discussion hosted by Tower in May heard about some of the company’s innovative tools being applied to improve responses to climate and weather-related events. Couldn’t make the session? Watch it here.

A team from the University of Canterbury would like to talk with potential partners to commercialise a Structural Health Monitoring solution. It is designed to assist with post-earthquake assessments for non-instrumented and instrumented buildings. To connect with the team, email us.

We’re looking forward to our next virtual event exploring how insurers, reinsurers and major brokers are intentionally collaborating with startups and the wider tech ecosystem. Join us on Wednesday 31 July (5.30pm NZT) to hear the early findings from the Open Innovation study by London-based Sonr, plus perspectives on effective partnering. Register here here.

If you would like to identify potential partners and customers in Australia, check out InsurTech Australia’s ecosystem map. Save the date for InsurTechLIVE 2025 on 18 February in Sydney, it’s a great opportunity to meet many of these companies in person.

An insurtech accelerator focussed on broker tech will run in Des Moines, Iowa, in November, supported by communities within the Global Insurtech Alliance. Expressions of interest are open for one New Zealand participant – contact us to learn more.

We’re delighted to announce that employees of InsurTechNZ member companies can now join the TechWomen community for free. This group of more than 800 passionate New Zealand tech, digital and ICT focused individuals come from a diverse range of organisations. They work together to support the growth of women in tech roles, including mentoring, ShadowTech Day and host regular webinars and events.

Let’s keep building our talent pipeline! During our May event the Auckland ICT Graduate School Industry Engagement Manager discussed internships. If you’re interested, to secure a graduate student intern for Semester 2 and Summer, find out more here.

Kind regards,

Rob Ellis, co-chair and Kylie Bryant, co-chair
