Skytree Scientific Seeks a New Zealand Pilot Partner for StrikeIndex

Skytree Scientific is looking for a New Zealand or Australian insurer to pilot StrikeIndex, its lightning risk underwriting platform for property insurers.

StrikeIndex gives underwriters an address-level view of lightning exposure. It scores individual locations using ground strike-point density and building characteristics, assesses whole portfolios through an API, and supports renewal and risk management decisions across the policy lifecycle.

The platform is ready for pilot. Skytree wants to work with one carrier on a short, structured pilot, with the partner helping shape how StrikeIndex fits local underwriting and claims workflows. The best fit is a smaller, tech-forward insurer able to involve people from underwriting, claims, actuarial and technology.

The local case is stronger than it first appears. Lightning is less frequent in New Zealand than in many countries, but it is unevenly spread and a single storm can deliver a large share of an area’s typical year. Exposure varies sharply from one location to the next, which is exactly what regional averages miss.

“A regional average misprices both ends of that range,” said Christopher Bean, CEO and Co-Founder of Skytree Scientific. “We want a local partner who sees that as an opportunity and wants a hand in shaping the tool.”
