Latest Industry News | August 2026

Our two most recent events provided a great opportunity to bring the ecosystem together in both Auckland and Wellington. In June AWS hosted us for – Open Data and AI in Action – showcasing how open data and AI are delivering tangible results with a practical look at what’s working, and what we can build on. Featuring use cases in life (AI Underwrite), contact centres (Tower) and insurtech marketing (JAVLN).

And in July, we convened at the Natural Hazards Commission for a showcase of  AI and data projects including the data strategy behind the latest version of Aotearoa’s Natural Hazards Portal, and projects underway at UniMed, and insurtechs SimfuniBounce Insurance and Folio Insure.

Global Study into Partnering

As a community we have sought to share best practice examples of partnering between insurers and insurtechs. Now InsurTechNZ members are invited to contribute to a research study by the University of Southhampton and other insurtech communities exploring how incumbent insurers and early-stage ventures make decisions together when developing new market propositions/models under uncertainty.

DXC Invitational 2026

Calling late-stage startups and scaleups – applications to join the DXC Invitational 2026 close Friday, 14 August, 2026. Finalists will have the opportunity to pitch live to a panel of industry judges and an audience of insurance leaders on 9th September in Sydney.
