InsurTechNZ Update – May 2023

Raising the profile of Insurtech among tech graduates and professionals is a strategic focus this year. Member companies Delta Insurance and Pinnacle Life presented to over 100 students enrolled in Auckland University’s Masters of Business Analytics course about careers in Insurtech recently, and we’ll build on this connection throughout 2023/24. On 18 May, as part of Techweek23, speakers from Fidelity Life, Grappler and Folio Insure will join a livestream to talk about data-led careers in insurance.

Our InsurTechNZ Connect events are a valuable forum for connecting startups and established insurers. Our March event, hosted by AWS, brought together an exciting line of speakers to discuss automation in claims and underwriting – a very hot topic in the current environment. We explored issues including accessibility for policy holders to the data needed to assess whether they have chosen the right insurance for their circumstances. These events are more fun in person, but if you can’t make it on the night, check out our website for a recording

The next member event is on 24 May in Wellington. Supported by Partners Life and hosted by EY at Generator, 40 Bowen Street, we’ll explore using data and digital strategies to enhance the user experience for insurance customers. Register here.

We are keen to hear from members planning to attend international conferences including ITC, in order to identify potential synergies. FintechNZ is gathering expressions of interest by Kiwi firms travelling to Hong Kong’s Fintech Week (30 October to 5 November) which includes an Insurtech stream, so let us know if you intend to travel.

Best wishes,
Dale Smith co-chair and Kylie Bryant, co-chair
